Hello, I'm Lee Jaeyoon, the executive director. Nice to meet you.
Hello, I am Executive Director Lee Jaeyoon from Shayman. I have been with Shayman for six years, involved from the start of the business. I am also the husband to a beautiful wife who is ten years younger than me, and I am from Dongnae District, Busan. Please look after me.
You were a banker before, right?
Yes, that's correct. Before joining Shyman, I worked at M Bank for about five years. At the bank, I met my current wife and we got married. The various skills I learned and applied as a banker have also greatly helped at Shayman, especially my expertise in commercial district analysis which I actively utilize to ensure our store owners' maximum sales.
You often hear you are handsome, right?
Oh, that's an overstatement. I am flattered. Actually, the store owners who have been with Shayman for a long time are often surprised when they see me now because I have lost a lot of weight. I started losing weight suddenly because I thought, 'I am the face of Shayman that new prospective store owners meet, shouldn't I be well-managed?' Thus, I have lost about 20 kg since last year through CrossFit, and I am told that I look neat. The best change is that my health and physical strength have improved more than tenfold. This has also allowed us to expand to our 124th franchise location as of May 24, 2023. I highly recommend trying CrossFit; it's truly beneficial."

What made you decide to work here?
While working at the bank, I suddenly thought, 'What if I started a business?' So I gathered the courage to resign from the bank. The first business I started was the 'Wireless Bluetooth Microphone' business, which was once a hit in South Korea. It really did well. I made a lot of money, and the company grew, flourishing with dozens of employees. However, I was scammed by a client over a large sum of money, which was a hard blow as I was only in my mid-30s. Because I have always had a strong sense of responsibility, I made sure to settle everything from salaries to severance and consolation payments before closing the business. At that time, I had just gotten married and needed a job urgently, believe it or not, I briefly worked in a sauna at the Ramada Hotel in Suwon, scrubbing backs. During this time, the CEO I knew reached out to help. This was when Shyman had just started with about one or two stores. Having personal business experience and expertise in imported products and banking, I felt grateful and confident to continue working with our CEO, Hwang Kwang-soo. If the CEO had not reached out then, I might have lived a different life."
It's surprising that you majored in Chinese.
It's something I take pride in. I graduated from Busan University of Foreign Studies with a degree in Chinese, achieving excellent grades. Wanting to improve my Chinese skills further, I even studied abroad in Harbin, the hometown of the antagonist Jang Chen from the movie 'The Outlaws 2', for about two years. At one point, my nickname at the company was 'Harbin Jang Chen' (haha). Although now, the foreign trade manager Hwang Jun-seo is in charge, in the early days, I also managed some of the foreign trade operations. It's common in startups. Although not quite native, I do speak Chinese fairly well. Especially since most of our Shayman products are imported from factories in China, my background in Chinese studies and my time abroad have been tremendously helpful. Thanks to this, we can import high-quality products directly from reliable factories and keep costs low, which allows us to offer more benefits to our store owners. I'm proud of my major. Did I brag too much? (haha)"
Please boast about your wife.
My wife is the reason I live and exist. First of all, my wife is really beautiful. Anyone would say she's pretty. She's objectively beautiful. She also has excellent fashion sense and a generous and pure personality. I am so thankful and grateful to be her husband, and I live happily every day. That's all. Please don't ask any more. I'll live diligently."

Isn't it tough being the director?
It would be a lie to say it's not hard. It's indeed very challenging. But, this hardship is just physical exhaustion from having a lot of work because things are going well. In a way, it's a 'happy difficulty.' As we talked about CrossFit initially, you know that to build muscle, physical pain must occur so that muscle fibers can tear and new tissues can grow? It's similar to that. Through this hardship, our Shyman muscles will become stronger, and I am sure that I will also become a better person, a better executive director, and a better business operations manager for the store owners. The harder I work, the healthier it is for the store owners and everyone at Shayman. Please keep it challenging. Continue."
What is your dream, Director?
My dream is 'Let's all live well.' Really. I hope all our store owners with Shayman become wealthy because if the store owners are wealthy, I become wealthy, Shayman headquarters becomes wealthy, and so do all our colleagues. Our CEO Hwang is going to be a genuine wealthy man. (laughs) I hope everyone I know enjoys a happy life. Isn't there a saying, 'The value of together'? Why do franchises exist? It's for everyone to live well together; that's the ultimate goal of a franchise. I will strive harder for this. Thank you."

What would you like to say to the store owners and prospective store owners?
Hello, I'm Executive Director Lee Jaeyoon from Shyman. There's something I always say when I meet a store owner or a prospective store owner for the first time: 'We do not commit fraud.' Do you remember this? There's a good reason why I make sure to say this. The best product that Shayman and I, as a person, can offer is 'trust.' The headquarters could potentially open a franchise in an improbable location just for immediate profit. But what would that mean for the store owner's life? And in the long run, for the headquarters to do well, the store owner needs to succeed, which wouldn't happen if we just open and then ignore them. If that were the case, Shayman, the longest-running unmanned adult product franchise in South Korea, wouldn't exist today. While stores sell products, I and the headquarters are really selling trust. So, please put down your phone if you were about to inquire about starting a business with someone else, and call me instead. Thank you. (joking)"
